Idealism leads to Patriarchy and Selfishness leads to Feminism

Lori recently said in a comment at this website:

“Feminism is not at all predicated on the notion that men are bad. It is predicated on that notion that power by men over women is bad. Feminists do not want to be subject to good men any more than we want to be subject to bad men – just as you do not wish to be subject to a woman, no matter how wise and good she may be.”

A feminist man is bad not because he is a man but instead because he is a feminist; being a feminist is bad.  A feminist woman is bad not because she is a woman but instead because she is a feminist; being a feminist is bad.  There is a male version of feminism and a female version of feminism; the male version of feminism is the irresponsible lazy man who shuns his duty to provide for and protect and take care of women, better to empower the woman so that she can take care of herself instead.  The female version of feminism is the arrogant bossy entitled woman who thinks that she is above everybody else, she is superior, she is entitled to get her way, everybody owes her, her needs and interests are above the interests and needs of children and above the interests and needs of men; she is first and foremost power hungry.  Male feminism and female feminism are both selfishly oriented, both neglectful of the needs of children, and are complementary to each other; the male selfishness of irresponsibility and neglect legitimizes and enables the female selfishness of power mongering and the self-serving attitude that women come first.

It is moral for the man to say that women come first; “women and children first” as the saying went; that is idealistic and heroic.  It is immoral and selfish however for the woman to proclaim that women come first; the she is better than others or that she deserves more than others.  Patriarchy is the man saying that women come first; feminism is the woman saying that women come first.  The difference between the man saying that women come first and the woman saying that women come first is that the man placing the woman’s interest first is his idealistic contribution to another and to a higher idealistic purpose that the woman represents or that the woman is a vehicle for; contributing to the woman being a means to contribute to those the woman serves, usually primarily children.  The woman declaring that she as a woman comes first is the woman demanding that somebody else serve her, in particular the man, that the man owes her because she is better than and more important than and superior to the man.

The issue is not the objective truth or falsehood of whether women come first in reality or not; the issue is whether men are in control of the meaning and the practical application of the moral claim that women come first or whether women are in control; under patriarchy men are in control of what women coming first means and entails while under feminism it is women who decide how best women’s interests should be elevated above men’s.

There is no gender equality, gender equality is a made up artificial construct not connected to the real world, not connected to the nature or reality of who men and women are or what men and women want or what men and women are good at or how men and women relate to each other.  I’ve never heard of or seen a feminist advocate for gender equality; that men and women should be seen as the same and treated the same way in every sphere of life.  Usually what feminists advocate for in practice is that women are equal to men except in certain cases or circumstances where women are superior; feminists claim in principal and always that a woman is never inferior to a man in any way but sometimes in certain ways men are inferior to women.  That often a man owes a woman but never ever does a woman owe a man anything.

Gender equality is a rhetorical device to legitimize female supremacy in practice; when a feminist claims gender equality what they mean is female supremacy; both male feminists and female feminists included.

As a believer in patriarchy I would not say that women are superior to men but definitely women’s interests come before men’s interests; that women’s interests are above men’s interests and at the same time men’s right to authority is greater than women’s right to authority, that women are to obey men as a general rule; that women are to obey a good or a morally competent man.

Feminism or women’s empowerment makes sense under the scenario that men are bad or that men are not morally competent; if men are bad and inclined to be abusive and selfish then women’s interests are best served by empowering women to act unilaterally on their own behalf; if men are good and inclined to be idealistic and self-sacrificing on behalf of others, in particular on behalf of women, then women’s interests are best served by placing the woman under the authority of the man so that the man is enabled to act on the woman’s behalf.  The primary moral imperative is to serve women’s interests first so if men are bad then women’s empowerment or feminism is the best way to serve women’s interests; on the other hand if men are good then patriarchy and male dominance over women is the best way to serve women’s interests because men contributing to women as happens under patriarchy is better than men abandoning women as happens under feminism.

If idealism and self-sacrifice on behalf of others is the norm and the expectation in a society then in that society patriarchy and male dominance over women will be the rule because then men will use their power over women to serve women better and in that way women’s interests will be maximized.  If selfishness is the norm and the expectation in a society then in that society feminism and female empowerment will be the rule because female selfishness is preferred over male selfishness because female selfishness will tend to serve women’s interests better than male selfishness and women’s interests come first.  Women’s interests come first whether a society and a culture is idealistic or selfish, whether the society is healthy or sick; it is just that in a healthy society where both men and women are inclined to place the other sexes’ interests first it is men who should be dominate so that women’s interests will be placed first as the men prefer.  If on the other hand the society is sick and both men and women are inclined to place themselves first then women’s empowerment is preferred so that women will be able to elevate themselves into the superior position and through the vehicle of women’s selfishness place the interests of women first.

I am in favor of patriarchy and I am in favor of mutual idealism and I am in favor of obedience to God because ultimately women’s interests are better served by the man idealistically sacrificing on behalf of the woman than by the man selfishly empowering the woman so that the man doesn’t have to take care of the woman anymore.  The man places the woman first based on the man’s idealism on behalf of the woman and the man’s idealism on behalf of the woman comes from the man’s obedience to God; the man serves the woman as his duty to God.  Obedience to God is the mechanism by which the man places the interests of the woman first and it is also the mechanism by which the woman places the interests of the man first; and since the interests of the woman come first overall the man should be dominant over the woman so that the man’s desire and inclination to put the woman’s interests above his own will be established as the social and cultural norm.

The reason why women’s interests are superior to men’s interests is because women are closer to children; elevating women’s interests above men’s interests serves to elevate the interests of children above the interests of adults so that both men and women dedicate themselves to the well being of children and therefore the survival and prospering of the human race to the next generation as evolution and God dictates.

  1. Brian says:

Hi. I hope you are having a great new year so far.

I think you have a very interesting analysis here. I remember reading somewhere, though the exact source alludes me at the moment, a theory of how patriarchy was invented by girls in order for every girl to have a choice between a collection of men of every increasing “quality”, for want of a better word. The presumption being men started out as “underdeveloped” and such metaphorical raising of the bar helped to make them better.

Have you come across this notion before? What are your thoughts on the idea?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Sexual selection has been around forever, in a lot of species the males have to put on a performance in order to mate with a female; the peacock’s tail being a famous example of this. It makes perfect sense for human females to select for more powerful stronger men who are able to provide for them and protect them better as more of the children a woman has with a stronger man will survive to adulthood to reproduce themselves. This bias towards men who are more powerful being preferred by females will then lead to men in general being more powerful and aggressive and assertive to compete better with the other men who are their competitors for the women that they want. This then will lead to men on average being more powerful than women on average; not helpful for the gender equality idea.

If you want to learn more about a possible reason why patriarchy emerged and developed specifically within the human population I suggest this article at my website:
